Spring Fling

The Cuyuna Iron Range Riders and the Central Lakes ATV club hosted the 9th annual Spring Fling on April 17th at the Bridge Tavern. 93 people attended the event. This year’s guest speakers were Tom & Karen Umpress from the National Off Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) and Chris Pence, CWC lands service supervisor.

Umpress’ told the group about NOHVCC, an educational organization and a national body of  Off – Highway Vehicle recreational enthusiasts. They develop and provide a wide range of programs and information tools to individuals, clubs, associations and agencies to further a positive future for responsible Off Highway Vehicle recreation.

Pence spoke about the recent articles published in the Brainerd Dispatch about the Mississippi Northwoods property. The county is working through the comprehensive trail application process. Pence noted that the comment period ended on the 15th and that the county will respond to each one. Comments can still be submitted to the county’s website.

State representatives Josh Heintzeman and Dale Lueck joined the group along with Mary Straka, Off Highway Vehicle Coordinator for the DNR.

There were serval people that took home door prizes donated from the local business.  Both clubs appreciate the generous support from the business and community.  Membership discounts were offered and several new people joined each club.  Both clubs are continuing trail maintenance youth safety training and are looking forward to great riding season. Project Trail K’nex

Our club along with Over the Hills Gang, Central Lakes ATV club, Woodtick Wheelers, and Blind Lake club met March 19th at the Ironton Legion. Each group shared club updates, looked at trail maps, discussed ways to connect trail riding areas and towns. There was a lot of good discussion. Woodtick Wheelers brought beverages, OTHG brought pastries and our club provided lunch. It was a great meeting with 30 people attending.

Thank you,
