Due to the recent snow and cold weather our Saturday trail work day is cancelled.
We are going to take a couple months off and get back together next January. We will plan more rides and trail work days in 2021. We had a great year with many good rides and memories. A big shout out and thank you to our new members for joining and everyone that came to ride and worked on our trails. Stay in touch on Facebook.
Our club meeting and ride is this coming Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Ironton Legion, 232 4 th Street we are riding the Lawer Loops and we will stop for lunch at Jackson Hole. This will be our last club meeting and ride for the season. Bring your own snacks and beverages. The forecast is low 60s and sunny. The fall colors should be really nice. Last month we rode the Fond du Lac State Forest. Russ guided our group through the forest; we had a good turnout, it is a very nice forest to ride, I recommend we go back next year. There are several pictures on our clubs Facebook page. Keep October 24th open we are going to do some trail maintenance on the Mississippi Northwoods Trail and the Miller Black Bear Trail.

Below is a press release from Crow Wing County. There is a proposal to build a gun shooting range on 84 acres of County Land that borders Iverson road, this is close to our Miller Black Bear trails. This is an area that our club would like to expand trails to make connections to the Mississippi River Northwoods Trail. There are currently some trails in that area, that we hope to use. If this would be approved it would stop any trail expansion there. The county is taking pubic comments, the comment period ends this Sunday, it’s urgent please send your comments.
Our next club meeting is this coming Saturday at 9 a.m., at the Ironton Legion, 232 4th Street. We will be riding trails in the Fond Du Lac State Forest near Cromwell, MN. This is Russell and Mark’s hometown area. Our club rode there three years ago they are nice scenic trails. Bring some sandwiches, snacks and beverages for the ride. There are not any restaurants in Cromwell.
Last month we had our Explore MN ride with Over the Hills Gang ATV Club. There were 52 people and 38 machines on the ride everyone had a good time. OTHG brought sandwiches and chips for everyone, our club brought pop and bottled water. You can see lots pictures on our club Facebook page.
In other good news, Sue Sasse is our new Club secretary. Sarah Phillips had been it for many years. Thank you Sue for accepting the position and thank you Sarah for all those years.
Please welcome our new club members Mark Walters and Jim & Pat Dearing.
Dale Carry and David Wille have been out working on trails in the Mississippi River Northwoods area. Great job guys!
Crow Wing County Commissioners are discussing a shooting range proposal off of Iverson Road, it is an 84 acre parcel that boarders Iverson Road. It is not far from the Miller – Black Bear Trails. There are currently some trails in this area, if this is approved it will affect our riding area. There have been articles in the Crosby newspaper.
Here is a link to the press release. Please send your comments.

So many trails, so little summer! Join us as we travel away (but not too far!) from our Emily/Outing ATV trails to experience another of the states great trail systems. This year we will explore the Hill City Connector Trail and the UPM Blandin Trail. Lots of variety on this trip! Forest, hills, mud, play area, tight and twisty, wide open and fast. You name it, you’ll ride it! Meet at the Swatera parking area off the Soo Line North ATV trail at 10 a.m. Picnic lunch out on the trail provided by Over the Hills Gang ATV Club.
For those not familiar with Swatera, a group of riders will also be meeting at 9 a.m. in Outing at the parking lot 1/4 mile east of town on Cass Cty Rd. 58 then trailering out to Swatera.
Our club meeting and ride is this coming Saturday, August 8th – 9 a.m. at the Ironton Legion. We are riding the Emily Outing / Moose River trails. There will be some people from the Cuyuna Lakes State trail group coming to the meeting. They want to discuss their plans for a paved trail and the bridge over Sand Creek in the Mississippi Northwoods trail area. I look forward to hearing their plans. For this meeting I’m going to hold off on our club business this month.
Sarah Phipps has stepped down as our secretary. We need someone to fill that position.
Last month we had our annual club picnic at the Miller Black Bear trails. We had a good turnout, 32 people came. Andrew was our grill master he did a great job, we need to get him a chef’s hat and apron.
Senator Carrie Ruud and Representative Josh Heitzman attended, everyone brought something to share, we all had great time. There are several pictures posted on our Facebook page you can see.
Dale Carry’s dad passed away, the funeral was Monday. We are all sorry to hear this Dale, Barb our treasure sent a card and monetary gift.
We have added a new tab on the home page of our website for our Club Ride and Events Calendar. It will make it easier to check in on Cuyuna Iron Range Riders activities, when you have a chance check it out at cuyunaironrangeriders.com.
